These comics take place in an alternate universe on planet Urrth, one quite similar to ours, except for one major difference: 99% of the population has one of the six types of magics, know as forges.
When referring to the type, one would use the common words (air, urrth, etc). When referring to the forge (magic) the prefix is used (aero, terra, etc). Someone who has the ability to forge fire is called a pyroforge, for light a helioforge, and so on. People commonly use the prefix as shorthand. One might say, "Both my parents are helio but I'm umbra," instead of saying helioforges and such.
The 1% of the population that does not possess forging abilities are known as unforged. As they are a small minority, they face many injustices and inequalities in their forge-normative society.
